Young businesswoman Zara Hepher has advice for all women at work in how to address problems and maintain professionalism.
As a driven, young businesswoman, Zara hopes to promote a culture of inclusivity and strength among women in the workplace by leading by example and showing everybody what she is capable of regardless of her gender. She feels that although women are withheld and confined by the patriarchal stereotypes around women at work, that being self-assured and driven can help in tackling others opinions and ideas surrounding women.
Systemically, women have always been scrutinised and discriminated against in a business and occupational environment, only being allowed jobs during and after World War One as a result of the loss of men in war. This had a detrimental effect on workplace culture, wherein stigma around women staying home is just as prevalent as its ever been, thanks to stereotypes around motherhood. Zara argues that a woman has the strength of character and will to overcome these issues, proving everybody wrong, whilst also balancing duties pertaining to family.

Zara feels as a leading businesswoman in her field that showing strength and perseverance is key in leading by example, and subverting expectations and thriving under pressure are skills that one should develop and can develop in a strenuous business environment. Pressure is abundant in a workplace, and that, along with the aforementioned pressure relating to gender, can be difficult to work under, so keeping a level head is something Zara openly promotes, and really experiencing your emotions is key as to not become overwhelmed.
Yet, as we can see, through working hard with a driven mindset and a genuine interest in the field of work, results and success can be achieved. Whilst hindrances should not be underestimated, Zara feels they are an inevitability to deal with in any industry, so hard work and dedication is essential, as is a good support system and a passion for everything you do.
